All The Reasons Why We Intentionally Give Our Kid The Permission To Dream Big

I am so excited to see all the dreams, plans, vision boards, goals, and everything everyone seems to be doing this time of the year. But I think it’s time we included our kids on this one. My son was about six or seven years old and I remember taking him to the office with me and I sat with a few colleagues of mine as we dug into our new year’s goals and discussed strategy and more. My son caught wind of the conversation and he wanted to “do it too”.

He wanted to create goals for the new year and keep track of it. He came up with two goals.

1. To try one spicy food a month

2. Jump five reading levels by the end of the school year

Let’s just say he passed both his goals with flying colors. At six years old I taught him how to create SMART goals and he’s been doing them ever since.

It’s important to us that we show our son that we are human and we’re trying to figure out life while also parenting a mini human. We shared our biggest dreams with him and the different ways we’ll use to get there. We share our wins and our many missteps.
